Is Hip Pain Affecting Your Everyday Life?

Hip pain can make simple activities difficult — walking, climbing stairs, sleeping comfortably, sitting for long periods, exercising or getting in and out of a car.

Whether your symptoms started suddenly or have been building over time, we’ll help identify what may be contributing to them and create a clear plan for recovery.

Hip pain can affect people of all ages, from active adults and athletes to people managing arthritis or persistent joint and tendon symptoms.

Common Hip Conditions We Treat

We assess and treat a wide range of hip and groin problems, including:

Hip pain can also be referred from the lower back or pelvis, so a detailed assessment is important to identify the most likely source of your symptoms.

Understanding Your Hip Pain

Hip pain does not always come from the hip joint itself. Symptoms may arise from muscles, tendons, the joint, the lower back or surrounding structures.

Your assessment may include:

  • Discussion of your symptoms, activity and medical history

  • Hip and lower-back movement assessment

  • Strength testing

  • Functional tasks such as squatting, walking or stepping

  • Running or sporting movement assessment where relevant

  • Clinical testing to help identify the likely source of pain

Where appropriate, we may use objective strength testing to guide rehabilitation and monitor your progress.

Testing is always interpreted alongside your symptoms, clinical assessment and individual goals.

Treatment Tailored to You

There is no single treatment that works for every hip problem.

Depending on your assessment, your plan may include:

  • Hands-on treatment where appropriate

  • Progressive hip, gluteal and core strengthening

  • Hip mobility and movement exercises

  • Load management and activity modification

  • Objective strength testing and progress tracking

  • Shockwave therapy for appropriate tendon conditions

  • Sports massage where useful

  • Strength and conditioning

  • A progressive return-to-running, return-to-work or return-to-sport programme

Your treatment plan is based on what we find during your assessment and adapted as your symptoms, movement and strength improve.

Objective Hip Strength Testing with VALD Technology

Pain improving does not always mean that hip strength has fully returned.

At Light Blue Clinic, we use VALD dynamometry and force plate testing where appropriate to objectively measure strength, identify meaningful side-to-side differences and track progress during rehabilitation.

Objective testing can help us:

• Establish a strength baseline
• Compare the affected and unaffected leg
• Identify specific strength deficits
• Guide exercise selection and progression
• Track improvement during rehabilitation
• Support return-to-running or return-to-sport decisions

Testing is always interpreted alongside your symptoms, clinical assessment and individual goals.
